There are some of you out there who might think like me- we're good at a bunch of things, but the talent we're focusing on just isn't cutting it for us!
That "talent", is what we spend most of our days doing- our job.
...& that's why some of us have multiple jobs or income-generating hobbies for that matter. These are usually extracurricular talents we can monetize or even just do for fun! Some fortunate people don't even have to work a job, but in my opinion that doesn't build tough skin (unless they've retired or have worked super hard to get to that point!). It takes hard work & good discipline to be the best at your craft.
If you don't love your work, it's just a job.
For many of us, we don't have a choice and have to work to make ends meet. A fabulous life is costly but we'll do anything to keep it alive.
The thing is, those of us who get tied up in our everyday jobs and have superior work ethic often become burnt out in the long run. We're underpaid & undervalued in certain situations but it's the only realistic option for the time being.
Only we know the passion that goes into our work to produce our best product. Though it meets expectations, we're not always acknowledged for the detail oriented work we do. Other people simply don't understand the quality of select "perfectionists" who meet the same goals as them. Hey, "as long as it works", or "it's satisfactory and details don't matter" are some of the excuses I hear that drive me nuts!
We put so much of our time & energy into working hard at our job for someone else's success because that's what we've been taught to do, right?!
However, not all of us go home to a "perfect life" that erases our work problems, so we dream of our other passions in the meantime.
Take it from someone who has worked in retail pharmacy her whole life! Let me tell you, it's very hard to have your cake & eat it too!
I Have Too Many Tabs Open!
You might have ADHD like me and want to start so many different things but don't know where to focus the attention on! Either way, having a complex brain is a great problem to have! You could still be organizing your thoughts, or maybe you've already meticulously planned out the rest of your life. Either way, there's a lot going on up there, and thats OK!
It could just be the nature of being a female, we're more complex in general...
Personally, my problem is that I love starting numerous projects but don't always finish them because I get too many "brilliant ideas" or fatigue of the idea itself. {Hey, at least I tried!}
I'm sure at some point in your life you've thought of selling a cute craft you made, but never went through with it due to the complications and time required.
Do you wish you carved out the time to follow through with those ideas? Would it have been a waste of time? I don't know about you, but I'd rather be exposed to many different talents vs. just one!
Don't wait, the timing will never be just right - Napolean Hill
Every talent I've pursued in my life has been a fun and memorable experience teaching me lessons along the way. I may have failed, got bored, or just changed my mind about continuing some of those hobbies on a regular basis, but I don't regret the attempts. Collectively, these talents have created who I am today!
It's good to test the waters of your curiosity even if you don't feel ready yet. Many people don't realize they even have multiple talents because they're so consumed in their everyday one! You'd be surprised what you can find out about yourself, even if it's not paying the bills yet!
A Diamond In The Rough
I truly believe in two sayings: "What doesn't kill you makes you stronger", and "everything happens for a reason". I know, they're super cliché, but through life experiences and overcoming hardships, I've realized first hand that both phrases are quite accurate.
Having had some insecurities myself, it took courage, determination, and sacrifice for me to explore a new unbeaten path in my life before I felt ready to face it's headwinds. Through these hardships, I've embedded learnt lessons into my brain and the ability to withstand and overcome the same problems for the future.
Part of the challenge is accepting the fact that you're not meeting the "normal" life journey everyone around you is portraying on social media. It didn't hit me at first, but everything that makes me odd also makes me interesting to my social following. It's good to keep people guessing, that's part of what makes you unique!
Becoming comfortable with the uncomfortable is all part of the journey and should be appreciated more!
I hope you enjoyed this post!
